The third Visiting Curatorial Research Fellowship, run jointly by the Charles Wallace India Trust, the V&A and the Alkazi Foundation for the Arts.
The residential fellowship enables a mid-career cultural producer from India to conduct original research within the V&A's Photography Section and contribute to its ongoing projects, starting April 2027.
Applicants propose a focused humanities-led project engaging with the V&A's global photography collections, with clearly defined objectives and outcomes such as an exhibition, publication or article; proposals exploring connections between the Indian subcontinent and the wider world are particularly encouraged.
Proposals must be achievable in three to six months, demonstrate knowledge of photographic history or contemporary lens-based practices, and be submitted in English.
Within three months of returning to India the Fellow submits an article arising from the research, which may be published by the participating organisations.
Eligibility is limited to Indian citizens domiciled in India, aged 25 to 45, working as mid-career cultural producers; it is open to artists, scholars, writers, editors and curators, but not to collectives or multiple proposals.
The Fellow receives access to the V&A's collections and Photography Section, support from the partners' professional networks and possible editorial help with the article, and arranges their own accommodation, meals and local transport from the funding.
The award is announced in February 2027.
